This report is the most recently published article on our series of laparoscopic Gastric Bypass, Roux en-Y, and includes the first 500 cases.  It describes our surgical principles, and provides data on weight loss, and most importantly, on relief of the co-morbidities of severe obesity.

Highlights:

• Serious Co-Morbidities were eliminated in over 95% of patients.
• Diabetes Mellitus, Type II, was eliminated in 96% of 85 diabetic patients.
• Average excess body weight loss over up to 5 years of follow-up was 77%.
• Weight loss during the first 6 months was 62% of excess body weight..
• Weight loss at one year was 77% of excess body weight.
• Eighty percent of patients achieved a loss of at least half their excess body weight, and maintained it for up to 5 years.
